MANCUNITY

Great Northern Warehouse, Manchester | 29th February – 1st May 2024

MancUnity was the first exhibition by Manchester Photography Collective. It brought photographers from across Greater Manchester together at the Great Northern Warehouse to share their different views of the city and the people who make it.

The idea of unity gave the exhibition a starting point rather than a single style to follow. The photographs moved between street scenes, portraits and quieter observations of everyday life. Seen together, they offered a picture of Manchester shaped by many people looking closely at the place they call home.

For me, MancUnity was also an important step in building the collective. I wanted to create opportunities for photographers to meet, show their work and learn from one another, whether they were established or exhibiting for the first time. Bringing their images into a shared public space made that ambition tangible.

The exhibition marked the beginning of MPC’s work as an exhibiting community. It showed what could happen when photographers with different experiences and approaches were given room to contribute to a collective picture of Greater Manchester.
