STILL HERE

Still Here grew from my travels across Britain and the United States, particularly the road trips I took through American towns I had long wanted to photograph. I found myself stopping at places that were easy to pass by: a bar at the side of the road, an ageing storefront, a parked car, a building still serving its purpose as the streets around it changed.

I made the photographs without a fixed story in mind. As the images came together, I could see how often I had been drawn to signs of use and endurance. Paint had faded, businesses had changed hands and some streets were quieter than they might once have been. But people were still living and working there. I wanted to photograph what was in front of me with care, without treating these places as remnants of a past that had already ended.

The series is influenced by American documentary photography and its attention to ordinary life. Light, colour and small details matter as much to me as the larger setting. A person standing outside a bar, for instance, can make a photograph feel specific to one moment while leaving room to wonder about everything beyond the frame.

Still Here is about the places we move through and the lives that continue there after we’ve gone. These are not ghost towns. They’re places still breathing, still working, still here.
