STILL HERE

Hilton House, Manchester | 17th July–9th October 2026

Still Here is a solo exhibition of photographs made during my travels across the United States. It opened at Hilton House in Manchester’s Northern Quarter in July 2026, bringing together images from two road trips I took in 2022 alongside photographs from a more recent visit.

I set out on those first journeys without a commission or a fixed plan for what the work would become. I needed time away, wanted to reach the desert and had long been curious about the towns of the Rust Belt. As I travelled, I found myself stopping for places that were easy to pass through without looking closely: ageing storefronts, quiet streets, faded signs and buildings still in use long after their busiest years.

The photographs are interested in what remains. They hold traces of economic change, but also the colour, character and everyday life that continue around it. Still Here is my way of spending time with those details and letting each place be more than a story of what it has lost.

One of the images, The Recession, shows a man standing outside a bar in Wheeling, West Virginia. It has stayed with me since I took it, and hearing visitors respond to it at the opening was a particular pleasure. More broadly, showing this work gave me a chance to share the documentary photography I most enjoy making: travelling with a camera, following my curiosity and finding a photograph in a moment I could never have planned.
